Maybe I'm being a classic, recognition-seeking millennial.
But I think the world needs more gold stars.
And high fives.
And positive reinforcement.
I love the big celebration with certificates and flowers and press release for our students and tutors of the year. But that's a long way away, and while I may bend my own rules and celebrate two students, or two tutors, I can't make everyone who deserves it the students/tutor/something of the year.
And besides, there's a lot of high five worthy actions that get forgotten at annual award time.
… the person who welcomed the new kid
… the person who said the right thing and lightened the tough situation
… the person who is calmly helpful with that stressful task
… the person who achieved a goal they've been working towards
At HTM we work with a great group of people: wonderful teachers, awesome students, dedicated volunteers.
And, I can't control the world supply of gold stars, but I can give out a few to these deserving people.
So, friends, this year when that student, volunteer, teacher, colleague does something that deserves a high five, or a 'you rock' or a 'thank you', would you
a) Tell them? (I'm sure they'll be thrilled)
b) Tell me, and I'll give them an official HTM gold star.
